EN After high school, I worked as a trained hotel manager at the Lemon Creek Hotel. Then Corona came and the guests stayed away. While others waited at home to be re-employed, I got involved on the farm.
I came up with the idea that, in addition to vegetables and fruits, we should also offer eggs and chickens. It is well known that it is better to stand on two legs.
Since I used to help prepare the meals back then, I asked to be given my own plot of land on the farm. That way, I was able to keep costs down. And so one thing led to another...
Since 1 January 2025, I have held overall responsibility as Director of HartCo Ltd.
I want to be a role model for young people, especially young women. If you believe in yourself, work hard, and behave loyally and honestly, anything is possible.
Mariama Sanyang
DE Nach der Highschool war ich als ausgebildete Hotelfachfrau im Lemon Creek Hotel beschäftigt. Dann kam Corona und die Gäste blieben weg. Während andere zu Hause auf Wiederbeschäftigung warteten, engagierte ich mich auf der Farm.
Ich brachte die Idee ein, dass wir neben Gemüse und Obst doch auch Eier und Hähnchen anbieten sollten. Bekanntlich steht es sich auf zwei Beinen
besser.
Da ich damals auch mithalf, das Essen zuzubereiten, bat ich darum einen eigenen Garten auf der Farm zubekommen. So konnte ich die Kosten senken. Ja und so ergab eines das andere....
Seit dem 01.01.2025 trage ich als Direktorin der HartCo Ltd. die Gesamtverantwortung.
Ich möchte jungen Menschen, besonders jungen Frauen ein Vorbild sein. Wenn du an dich glaubst, fleißig bist, dich loyal und ehrlich verhältst ist alles möglich.
EN My name is Momodou Wuri Bah. I was born in the CRR North Sami district, in a village called Jamali Ganyado. I completed my school education. I then attended the Horticulture Training Centre in Basse. After finishing the courses, I initially worked in my village garden, where I volunteered for two years to help the women who worked there. Then I received a call from Ousman, who introduced me to Mariama. At that time, she was also looking for someone with experience in crop cultivation. When I started working here, I realised that if we all work together as a team, there will be a bright future for us here on the farm – and therefore for me and the farm.
Wuri Bah
DE Ich bin Momodou Wuri Bah. Ich wurde im Bezirk CRR North Sami in einem Dorf
namens Jamali Ganyado geboren. Ich habe meine Schulausbildung abgeschlossen. Anschließend besuchte ich das Ausbildungszentrum für Gartenbau in Basse. Nach Abschluss der Kurse arbeitete ich
zunächst in meinem Dorfgarten und half dort zwei Jahre lang ehrenamtlich den Frauen, die im Garten arbeiteten. Dann erhielt ich einen Anruf von Ousman, der mich Mariama vorstellte. Zu diesem
Zeitpunkt suchte sie ebenfalls jemanden mit Erfahrung im Pflanzenanbau. Als ich hier anfing zu arbeiten, wurde mir klar, wenn wir alle als Team zusammenarbeiten, wird hier auf der Farm eine gute
Zukunft für uns und damit für mich mich und die Farm liegen.
EN My name is Musa Sowe from the village of Jamali Tamsir. I finished my studies and then worked as an agricultural trainee there.
I was working at the ‘Women’s Worries Farm’ at the time when I received a call from Wuri Bah. He told me about HartCo Farm, where he works. So I said to myself: ‘I’ll look into the possibilities.’ I really liked the farm and the team, and I will do my best to help them move forward.
Musa Sowe
DE Mein Name ist Musa Sowe aus dem Dorf Jamali Tamsir. Ich habe mein Studium abgeschlossen und war danach als Praktikant in der Landwirtschaft auf der tätig.
Zu der zeit arbeitete ich auf der „Women’s Worries Farm“, als ich einen Anruf von Wuri Bah erhielt. Er erzählte mir von der HartCo Farm, für die er arbeitet. Also sagte ich mir: „Ich werde mich nach Möglichkeiten umsehen.“ Die Farm und das Team hat mir sehr gut gefallen, und ich werde mein Bestes geben, um sie weiter voranzubringen.
EN I come from Maka Balla, in the very north of The Gambia, in the Niumi District on the Senegalese border. My two daughters also live there with their families. The region as a whole is very poor. There is hardly any work to be found. In February 2024, Omar Camara told me that there was a farm in Mamuda. I could have free board and lodging there.
I introduced myself and started work on 1 March 2024.
My colleagues affectionately call me ‘The Machine’ because, when there is work to be done, I don’t look left or right but get the job done with diligence and perseverance.
Pa Modou Ngum
DE Mein Ursprung liegt in Maka Balla ganz im Norden Gambias im Distrikt Niumi an der Senegalesischen Grenze. Meine zwei Töchter leben dort ebenfalls mit ihren Familien. Die Region insgesamt ist sehr ärmlich. Arbeit gibt es kaum. Im Februar 2024 erzählte mir Omar Camara, dass es eine Farm in Mamuda gibt. Dort könnte ich freie Kost und Logis haben.
Ich stellte mich vor und begann mit der Arbeit am 01. März 2024.
Meine Kollegen nennen mich fast liebevoll "Die Maschine", weil ich wenn es etwas zu tun bin nicht links und rechts schaue und meine Arbeit mit Fleiß und Ausdauer zu Ende bringe.
EN When people ask me what my role is on the farm, where I’ve been working since February 2026, I always say: “The most important one.” That’s because, by providing the team with their daily meals, I ensure they have the fuel they need to stay strong and energetic.
I also do the cleaning and the washing.
Because my parents couldn’t afford the school fees, I had to leave school after Year 6. I live in the neighbourhood of the farm.
Kujataal Jallow
DE Wenn mich Leute fragen, was meine Aufgabe auf der Farm, auf der ich seit Februar 2026 nachgehe, dann sage ich immer: "Die Wichtigste". Denn ich sorge mit der täglichen Essensversorgung des Teams für den nötigen Input, damit meine Leute Kraft und Energie haben.
Daneben mache ich sauber und wasche.
Weil meine Eltern das Schulgeld nicht aufbringen konnten, musste ich die Schule nach der 6. Klasse aufgeben. Ich lebe in der Nachbarschaft der Farm.
